Ambulatory Care Unit at Oldham moves location and relaunches as Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) Unit.

26 January 2022

The Royal Oldham Hospital’s Ambulatory Care Unit has moved location and changed its name.

Having been located between the Emergency Department and the Acute Medical Unit for almost 10 years, the Ambulatory Care Unit has relocated to a new facility on Ward C1 and has relaunched under the new nationally recognised ‘Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) Unit’.

The Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) Unit provides same-day emergency care (SDEC) for medical patients. Patients are assessed, diagnosed and treated in most cases on the same day depending on the outcome of their investigation. They assess and treat many common conditions including blood clots (DVT), cellulitis (skin infections), anaemia (low blood counts), chest infections and headaches.

The team aim to complete any tests and treatment you need within one visit. They liaise with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams both in primary and secondary care to ensure that patients receive the personalised care plans they need.

The unit’s opening hours remain 08:00-20:00, Monday to Friday and 08:00-16:00 on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on what to expect from your visit to the Medical SDEC unit, visit the service page on our website.

For any enquiries, the team can be contacted on 0161 656 1808/ 0161 627 8642.
