Dementia Awareness Talk – 20 October 2022

14 October 2022

We are inviting staff, patients, the public, and Foundation Trust members to attend a free Dementia Awareness Talk on Thursday 20th October, from 2 to 3pm  at the Humphrey Booth Lecture Theatre, Mayo Building, Salford Royal Hospital.

Dementia is a term which describes a syndrome which may be caused by a number of illnesses. It results in progressive decline in multiple areas of function, including memory function, communication and the ability to carry out daily activities. The two most common forms of dementia are Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.

We recognise the vulnerability of patients with dementia, delirium and physical frailty and we are taking action to improve the hospital experience for these groups of patients. Early diagnosis and interventions are key priorities for us.

Beverley Drogan, Dementia Service Lead, who will be giving the talk, said: “We are committed to listening to our patients, their families and their carers. Working with and involving carers and patients enables us to design care pathways that better meet the needs and expectations of patients with dementia and their families."

The talk will give you the opportunity to find out more about dementia and how we are helping to support and improve the hospital experience for these groups of patients in our hospitals.
