As part of South Asian Heritage Month, Rochdale Care Organisation’s Dr Zalan Alam shares his own story to educate, commemorate and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the independence of India, partition and the creation of Pakistan. 
Discussing the subject that is close to his heart, he said: “My interest in South Asian history goes back many years. I’ve done an additional degree in history, particularly focussed on South Asian history. I’ve been doing talks at a local community centre, Whitworth Art Gallery and local mosques about South Asian history (how it aligns to South Asian History Month), focusing on the key three things which are celebrating, commemorating and helping educate people to become aware of what’s happening and why it’s relevant to their lives.”
