Salford Celebrate International Nurses Day 2023

12 May 2023

Salford Care Organisation is hosting special events in recognition of the hard work and dedication of their nursing community.

May 12 marks International Nurses Day, which is acknowledged globally and falls on the day Florence Nightingale was born.

On the day there will be plenty of food with areas of the hospital decorated with balloons and banners to mark the day. Colleagues are being invited to attend well-being sessions that include Indian head massages and meditation. Raffles are being held with donations going to the Northern Care Alliance, NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) charity. There will even be belly dancing lesson for those who want to join in!

Alison Kelly, Interim Director of Nursing at Salford Care Organisation said: “I enjoy International Nurses Day each year because it gives me and all nurses an opportunity to celebrate our collective contribution to caring for our patients and their families.

“I will never stop being amazed at seeing the compassionate care provided on a daily basis and I want to thank all our nurses at Salford Royal Hospital, working in both an acute and community setting, for their commitment to the profession.”

Over 2,000 nurses work as part of the NCA family at Salford Care Organisation. Carole Holland, Divisional Director for Nursing, is the main lead for International Nurses Day festivities at Salford and will be retiring in May after 44 years of service. She said: “I can retire in June and honestly say that I have achieved more than I ever thought I would, from being a staff nurse, to a specialist nurse, ward manager, matron, lead nurse, ADNS, deputy DDN, and the last four years as Divisional Director of Nursing for Surgery and Peri-Operative Care.

"I couldn’t have asked for anything more out of my time here at Salford. Not to mention the fact that I’ve worked with some brilliant people many of whom have become my friends and remain so.”

Happy #IND2023
