6 April 2022

The skills and compassion of a much-loved colleague have been recognised with a special lifetime achievement award.

Dr Niamh Collins, who was a specialty doctor working in emergency care at Salford Royal, passed away earlier this year.

She was a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Undergraduate Medical Education (Year 3 TCD Lead) and Honorary Senior Lecturer (teaching) in Medical Education, School of Medical Sciences, University of Manchester.

At the 9th Annual Health Education England Northwest (HEE NW) SAS Doctors Virtual Conference 2022, Dr Collins was awarded the SAS (Specialty and Associate Specialist) Lifetime Achievement Award for demonstrating clinical excellence in her professional life over many years.

Prof Ibi Erekosima, SAS Lead Tutor at Salford Care Organisation, said: “Niamh was a highly skilled and supremely competent clinician who was also deeply compassionate and genuine in her care for her patients.

“Her enthusiasm and dedication to her work was infectious, and she was passionately committed to her role in medical education. Her teaching and mentorship have shaped many careers and continues to do so.

“Niamh was generous with her time, her wisdom, and her care, right to the end of her life. It is difficult to express the profound impact she had on every one of us.  We will miss her kindness, her wit, her skill, and her sincere concern for the welfare of all.”
