Infection Prevention & Control - Community

The Community IPC Team cover community services in Oldham, Bury, Heywood Middleton & Rochdale (HMR) and Salford. We are committed to preventing Infection and ensuring patient safety and comfort by minimising the risk of Health Care Associated Infections within the community. Working together the team aims to ensure that a seamless service is provided for all patients, reducing the potential hospital admissions.

Expert advice and up to date evidence based guidance regarding Infection Prevention and Control to Staff, Patients, the General Public and other Healthcare Practitioners

· Clinical guidance and policies to community teams and members of the public

· Provision of IPC education and training sessions

· IPC audits of clinical and non clinical environments

· IPC management relating to outbreak control working alongside United Kingdom Health Security Agency and other agencies where necessary

· Support compliance with external and internal directives/guidance i.e Care Quality Commission, United Kingdom Security Health Agency, Community Assessment and Accreditation System

· Carry out relevant IPC audits, such as environmental and clinical practice audits, and present the findings and recommendations to services, Quality Assurance, Infection Prevention Control Committee, Health and Safety, Estates and other members of the multidisciplinary team as appropriate

· Work with estates and facilities regarding new building projects, staff relocation, equipment maintenance and management, cleaning SLA’s

· Provide an Infection Prevention link worker programme

· Create monthly and annual IPC reports regarding Infection Prevention including documenting specific Infection rates such as Meticillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and Clostridium difficile and other reportable Infections

· Assist in the development and implementation of Infection Prevention Service Improvement projects such as SEPSIS and E-Coli reduction programmes

· Perform risk assessments and Root Cause Analysis assessments when required. Disseminate any findings to relevant members of staff to drive service improvements

· Assist with targeted vaccine programs
