When coming to any hospital appointment it is important to bring with you a list of your recent medications or any relevant information for example most recent glasses prescription or if you have had laser corrective surgery please bring your notes along with you.
When visiting for elective surgery you will have had a pre-operative assessment which likely will have been done over the telephone. (If you’re having a minor procedure under a local anaesthetic you will not have a pre-operative assessment however if you have any questions please ring)
At this assessment all relevant information will be provided so you know what to expect and bring with you on the day of your surgery. Please expect to be her for up to 5 hours on the day of surgery.
If you have any further questions after this assessment you can contact 01706 901766 and ask to be put through to the pre-operative nurse.
When visiting for an eye emergency appointment please expect to have a wait even though you are given an appointment time due to the nature of the clinic there can be delays as some patients may take longer to see than others.
On arrival your eye vision will be checked, and any relevant tests will be carried out before you see a member of the medical team.
When visiting for a laser clinic appointment your eye vision will be checked on arrival and eye drops will be administered to dilate or constrict the pupil depending on what type of laser surgery you are having. You will then see a Dr who will explain the procedure and perform the laser surgery. The timings of this appointment can vary depending on the type of laser you are having and how much is required however expect to be here for 1.5-2 hours.
Please remember after surgery and laser eye surgery you are not able to drive please have made arrangements to get home safely, we strongly advise against public transport as your vision may be affected from your procedure.
At present there is nowhere for relatives to wait on the unit due to social distancing please have their contact number and we can contact them once you are ready to be collected.
