The Royal Oldham Hospital

The hospital is well served by bus, particularly on Rochdale Road during the day. The most frequent service being the 409 between Ashton under Lyne, Oldham, Royton and Rochdale, plus other bus services to a number of locations serving the hospital. The nearest main bus stops for the hospital are located on each side of Rochdale Road, outside the hospital grounds (Stops A, B, C and D). There are also bus stops on Featherstall Road North, Sheepfoot Lane and Westwood Way. Bus stops surrounding the hospital have information posted and are letter coded.

The hospital is located just off the A671 Rochdale Road, with access to the lower part of the hospital also on Westhulme Way, off the A627 Chadderton Way. 

Visit the Car Parking page for more informnation on where to park and charges.  Please note that our parking does get very busy during Monday to Friday daytimes and parking restrictions apply on surrounding streets.  If possible, please try to use an alternative travel choice to our hospital, which does not include the need to park a vehicle.

Taxis are permitted to drop off and collect patients and visitors at all hospital entrances and locations signed or marked as drop off/ pick up areas.

The Main Entrance, Entrance 1 and Entrance 2 are located at the front of the hospital. Accident and Emergency (A&E) has its own entrance alongside Entrance 1. An information desk for directions and assistance is situated at the main entrance.

Patient and visitor parking areas 1,2 and 6 are located around the main entrance off Rochdale Road or via Granville Street at the front of the hospital, with patient and visitor car park 3 being located in an area just after Westhulme Way Gate entrance. Drop off/pick up areas and some further small areas of blue badge or patient and visitor parking are located near to Entrances 1, 3 and 4; and also located close to some departments within the site itself.

**Suspended due to Covid**

The Royal Rover is a minibus service operated by volunteers, between the hours of 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday, to provide transport around the hospital site only. The bus operates as hail and ride, or you can call 07972 142 907 to book a journey.

For public transport information and journey planning, including walking or cycling, visit www.tfgm.com (Transport for Greater Manchester).  Alternatively, contact Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 (10p per minute from BT landlines) for public transport information across the North West.  Google maps will also allow you to plan journeys by car, public transport, walking or cycling.

A number of door to door demand responsive transport services (Local Links) also provide journeys to/from our hospital sites. In a medical emergency, where the need is critical, or life-threatening, patients or their carers should dial 999 for a paramedic-led ambulance response. NHS Choices states that ‘it will generally be obvious if the patient, or someone else, is seriously ill, or injured, and will need emergency care’. A medical professional may also call for an ambulance on your behalf where this is appropriate. For non-emergencies, other use of ambulance transport is based on agreed eligibility criteria, according to the medical needs of the patient.

You may be able to claim a refund under the ‘Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme’ (HTCS) of the cost of travelling to hospital or other NHS premises for NHS-funded treatment or diagnostic test arranged by a doctor or dentist, if you are in receipt of certain allowances or benefits.
To obtain a HTCS refund you will need to complete a HC5 (T) form, available from the Cashier’s or General Office at each hospital site. More information on the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme can be found on the NHS Choices website.
