What is 24 Hours to Make a Difference 

24 Hours to Make a Difference is a exciting opputunity for colleagues to volununteer in a ward or department across the organisation. Colleagues will be allowed 24 hours of time, over a twelve month period, during their normal working hours to volunteer their time assisting the around the hospital site. Just think of the difference you could make in 24 Hours!

The 24 hours can be taken during your working day and must be in agreement with your line manager to ensure your own services can continue to run smoothly.

FAQs

  • We require all applicants to commit to completing 24 hours of volunteering with us over a 12 month period. Any additional volunteering is welcomed however would have to be completed outside of working hours. 
  • All participants must have clearance from their line manager to partake in the programme.
  • Some of are volunteering roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • All relevant training must be up to date and in some roles further training is required.

 

Any member of non-clinical staff can apply for the scheme. Once applied, we will discuss suitablility with a line manager.

Volunteering Opportunities

WHAT IS A DINING COMPANION?

A DINING COMPANION is a volunteer who assists patients during mealimes with manual feeding. Volunteers will sit with a patient and provide help and companionship, encouraging patients to eat and drink to aid in their recovery. Additionally, DINING COMPANIONS may help give out meal trays, cutting up food, ensure there is plenty of fresh drinking water for their patients and other ad hoc tasks. 

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRMENTS TO BE A DINING COMPANION?

All DINING COMPANION volunteers must hold an enhanced DBS and pass all relevent training. This includes face to face feeding competancies. Shifts are completed during lunch or dinner times on the wards. 

WHAT IS A WARD TROLLEY VOLUNTEER?

A WARD TROLLEY VOLUNTEER takes either our HYDRATION TROLLEY or ACTIVITY TROLLEY onto the wards to provide much needed assistance to patients wellbeing.

The HYDRATION TROLLEY requires volunteers to hand out hot and cold drinks to patients during their stay, freeing up other staff to perform their clinical duties. Hydration is detrimental to the recovery of inpatients and the HYDRATION TROLLEY is a much needed sigh of relief for both staff and patients. 

The ACTIVITY TROLLEY requires volunteers to hand out books, activity packs, play games and provide over all companionship to patiens. We know hospital stays can be long and daunting and our ACTIVITY TROLLEY VOLUNTEERS help to eliviate the stresses of impatients by providing some much needed entertainment.
