Colleague Sarah Plant, deputy Macmillan information and support manager, has been recognised with the prestigious Macmillan Excellence Award for Doing Whatever It Takes, celebrating her exceptional dedication to supporting people living with cancer in Oldham, Bury, Rochdale and beyond.
Since joining Macmillan in 2017, Sarah has played a pivotal role in rebuilding and transforming the Macmillan cancer information and support service for those patients living with cancer in the local area.
Sarah said: “Even a small amount of support can mean everything to someone, and I feel proud of the difference our team makes every day.”
She has been instrumental in developing a patient focused service both within the hospital and across the local community. Her work reached a major milestone with the opening of a new Macmillan support centre in 2024 at The Royal Oldham Hospital, leading to a significant increase in the number of people supported.
Alison McCarthy, Macmillan associate director of nursing for cancer, added: “This recognition highlights the lasting impact of Sarah’s commitment and the many lives benefitted through her work.
“Alongside delivering compassionate, high-quality care every day, Sarah has played a key role in driving service improvements. Her work to develop resources that help parents talk to children about cancer and a practical toolkit to support staff members living with cancer themselves shows her ability to bring together emotional support, staff training, partnership working, and service development in a way that truly makes a difference.”
Many congratulations to Sarah on this well-deserved award.
