Well done to Ruth Haas Eckersley, Health Visitor from the Rochdale East team, and Bury Community Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Physiotherapist Katie Eves, who have been successful in their applications to the HEE/ICA Internship programme.
The internships are funded and hosted by Health Education England and the National Institute for Health Research and provide 30 days’ clinical academic research experience, supported by supervision from an experienced academic. This allows those involved to continue their clinical practice while developing research skills on a project that will benefit their patients or service users.
Ruth will review early nutrition in the South Asian population and examine the resources available to address this in Rochdale. She will begin the programme in March under the supervision of Professor Heather Iles-Smith.
Katie will focus her internship on identifying the barriers and facilitators to outdoor exercise in working-age stroke survivors. She will begin the programme in March under the supervision of Dr Hannah Jarvis from Manchester Metropolitan University's Research Centre for Musculoskeletal Science and Sports Medicine.
Ruth and Katie's success follows them both gaining places on the NIHR CRN North West Coast's innovative Early Career Researcher Development Pathway last summer.
