National award for Fairfield General Hospital orthopaedics team

15 September 2023

Fairfield General Hospital has been named a National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider after its orthopaedics team successfully completed a national programme on joint replacement operations.

The NJR monitors the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement operations to improve clinical outcomes for the benefit of patients, as well as to support orthopaedic clinicians and industry manufacturers.

The registry collects high-quality orthopaedic data as evidence to support patient safety, standards in quality of care and overall cost-effectiveness in joint replacement surgery.

To achieve the award, the hospital’s orthopaedic team had to meet a series of targets during the 2021-2022 audit period, including making sure that it achieved NJR’s compulsory national standards for information completeness and quality.

Mr Daniel Cohen, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Fairfield General Hospital said: “Improving patient safety is of the utmost importance and something all our staff take very seriously. We fully support the National Joint Registry’s work in helping to improve outcomes for our joint replacement patients and we’re delighted to be awarded as an NJR Quality Data Provider.”
