3 January 2023

Professor Smeeta Sinha a Consultant Nephrologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Research and Innovation Deputy Director for the Northern Care Alliance has been appointed to the prestigious role of National Clinical Director for Renal Services.

Professor Sinha is a leader in the field of renal care, and she currently leads the complex Glomerulonephritis Service at Salford Royal which is an integrated clinical and research clinic serving a population of 1.3 million.

Smeeta has also served as the Clinical Lead for the North West NHS England Renal Network and the NHS England National Clinical Advisor for Chronic Kidney Disease, which is one of the four work streams that make up the National Renal Service Transformation Programme.

Smeeta said of her appointment, “I am really looking forward to taking on the role of National Clinical Director for Renal Services. I am passionate about innovation and improvement and ensuring patients have access to the services they need.

The renal service at the Northern Care Alliance has always worked collaboratively with patients and other services to deliver high quality, nationally recognised, services such as locality-based kidney care centres and access to transplantation.

I hope to bring that kind of integrated working, innovation, and development further afield to ensure that everyone is able to get the renal care they require.”

The role of National Clinical Director was also previously held from 2007-2013 by the late Professor Donal O’Donoghue, NCA colleague and namesake of our new Renal Research Centre, which is expected to open in 2023.
