Rochdale Infirmary partnership highly commended in national awards

6 July 2021

A PARTNERSHIP involving Rochdale Infirmary that aimed to make cancer services more accessible during the pandemic has been recognised at the HSJ Partnership Awards.

The GM Surgical Cancer Hub was ‘highly commended’ in the Local COVID-19 Response Partnership Award, recognising their hard-work and dedication to healthcare in what has been an unprecedented last 15-months.

The surgical hub is made up of Greater Manchester Cancer, the Christie FT, and Rochdale Infirmary (part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group).

The Northern Care Alliance brings together the Salford Royal and Pennine Acute trusts.

The GM Surgical Cancer Hub successfully treated over 2,000 cancer patients safely during a national and international pandemic and is an excellent example of NHS partnership working.

The partnership brought together The Christie and Rochdale infirmary which were both safe COVID-19 green sites.

The GM Surgical Cancer Hub was recognised for their ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that they had on patient experiences across Greater Manchester.

Keeley Gibbons, divisional managing director for Planned Care at Rochdale Care Organisation said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been Highly Commended in the Local COVID-19 Response Partnership Award. It means a great deal to all our team to be recognised in this way and we’re confident that the positive impact of this commendation will help to create a long-lasting legacy – we really are proud to be a part of a community bound by a commitment to improve healthcare for all. This commendation will provide a tremendous boost to the entire team involved in this project and I am sure it will bolster our efforts to develop and continually improve our services.”

The HSJ Partnership Awards took place at the Evolution London where the evening celebrated the very best achievements and innovations in the healthcare sector today across a total of 17 categories.

Held on Tuesday 29 June 2021, the long-awaited evening was the first in-person event for a few lucky attendees from both the NHS and private sector as well as figures from non-clinical backgrounds.

The awards celebrate the most effective partnerships with the NHS and highlight the benefits which working with the private and third sectors can bring to patients and NHS organisations.
