Bury Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) is a community service for patients registered with a Bury GP/Residents in Bury.
Who is the service for?
- People aged 50 and over
- Registered with a Bury GP and/or resident in Bury
- Those who have sustained a fracture/broken bone following a fall from standing height
The following categories of patient will be excluded from the service
- No evidence of fragility fracture;
- Fragility fracture to fingers, toes, scaphoid, face or skull;
- Fracture due to high trauma, metastasis or other bone pathology.
- Patients with a cognitive impairment will NOT be excluded from the service.
The aim of the service is to ensure identification, assessment of people over the age of 50 who have sustained a fragility fracture, assessing them for their risk of osteoporosis.
A fracture liaison nurse will assess them for their risk of osteoporosis. This is primarily done via telephone clinics.
Referrals are accepted from:
- Radiology department via radiology reports;
- The Falls Prevention Service;
- GP’s.
