Occupational Therapy Team - Oldham Community

The aim of the Community Occupational Therapy (COT) service is to effectively promote the maximum level of function and independence and to play an active role in the prevention of physical and psychological deterioration for our clients.

Clients are defined as the permanently physically ill or disabled children and adults who are resident in Oldham.

The team is based at the Link Centre and is a jointly commissioned service between the Northern Care Alliance and Oldham Council.

COT operates an open referral system. Assessments wherever possible are carried out at the ADL clinic in the Link Centre.

Occupational therapy interventions consist of:

• Promoting independent living and wellbeing through individualised assessments which may lead to the provision of assistive technology (equipment) or environmental adaptations to the home, therefore reducing avoidable admissions to hospitals/other residential care settings and reducing cost of home care packages
• Specialist assessments for seating and manual handling including training informal and formal carers in the safe use of any equipment provided.
• Advice to clients and other agencies on re-housing options and designing new builds/refurbishments of housing for people with a disability  to reduce impact need for major adaptations.
• Independent mobility assessments for the Blue badge scheme (managed by Oldham Council)
