Fairfield General Hospital is located 2 miles from the centre of Bury, 10.5 miles north of Manchester and is the third largest hospital run by the NCA.

Frequent Trax branded bus services 467 & 468 operated by Transdev Rosso serve the bus stops outside the hospital on Rochdale Old Road. There is a frequent service between Bury Interchange and Rochdale Interchange. The hospital is around a 10 minute bus ride from Bury Interchange, where further connections to services from other areas are available. Bus B4 operated by Transdev Rosso between Bury and Heywood/ Hopwood is the only service which serves bus stops within the hospital grounds.
The main bus stops within the hospital are located at stops A and B and stops F and G on Rochdale Old Road. Please note that buses using the hospital travel the same way in both directions, so always check which bus you are boarding. The nearest Metrolink station is Bury, approximately 2 miles from Fairfield General Hospital. The easiest option is to then transfer from the Tram to a Bus as Bury Interchange where the Metrolink station is. To walk to Fairfield from Bury Metrolink, click here for the walking routes.

Taxis are permitted to drop off and collect patients and visitors at all hospital entrances and locations signed or marked as drop off/ pick up areas.

The Accident and Emergency (A&E) and main entrance are located off the mini-roundabout upon entering the site (2nd and 3rd exits respectively). Further entrances can be accessed using the 4th exit on the mini-roundabout and the road travelling through the site.
The main public parking areas identified by green signage are located at either the top of the hospital site (take the immediate first left after entering the site at the traffic light junction for Patient and Visitor Car Park 1) or the further around the site (4th exit off the roundabout) Car Parks 2 to 4. These numbers releate to the entrance they are nearest to. Drop off/pick up areas and some further small areas of patient and visitor parking, plus blue badge parking are located near to other entrances and some departments.

In a medical emergency, where the need is critical, or life-threatening, patients or their carers should dial 999 for a paramedic-led ambulance response. NHS Choices states that ‘it will generally be obvious if the patient, or someone else, is seriously ill, or injured, and will need emergency care’. A medical professional may also call for an ambulance on your behalf where this is appropriate. For non-emergencies, other use of ambulance transport is based on agreed eligibility criteria, according to the medical needs of the patient.
You may be able to claim a refund under the ‘Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme’ (HTCS) of the cost of travelling to hospital or other NHS premises for NHS-funded treatment or diagnostic test arranged by a doctor or dentist, if you are in receipt of certain allowances or benefits. To obtain a HTCS refund you will need to complete a HC5 (T) form, available from the Cashier’s or General Office at each hospital site.
