Instructions for Splint
It is important to wear the splint at the times indicated by the therapist
- Do not alter the splint in any way
- Do not leave the splint where it will get too hot (sun, radiator, hot water) as the material may melt (plastic splints only)
- The splint and straps may be washed in cool soapy water
- Trial the splint for a short period before wearing for longer stretches and check for rubbing, redness, swelling, numbness, discomfort or pain
- If there is any rubbing, redness, swelling, numbness, discomfort or increased pain, remove the splint and contact the department immediately
- If symptoms persist after splint removal and its outside office hours, and you require immediate attention, contact your GP or A&E
