Rochdale Infirmary rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

10 February 2026

Rochdale Infirmary’s medical services have been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England and visited Rochdale Infirmary in July 2025 for a routine, unplanned inspection. This covered areas including the Clinical Assessment Unit, Oasis Unit and endoscopy unit and involved inspectors speaking to a range of staff, patients, relatives and visitors.

In their formal inspection report released in January 2026, inspectors said they found a strong safety‑focused culture, effective management of incidents, good infection prevention measures, and staff who consistently treated patients with compassion and kindness.

All five CQC domains – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well‑led – were individually rated Good.

Juliette Cosgrove, Chief Nursing Officer at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are really pleased that the CQC saw all the good practice at Rochdale Infirmary. Their feedback about our colleagues’ focus on safety and providing a good experience for our patients makes us particularly proud.

“We are incredibly grateful to all colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors who were involved in the inspection – this feedback lets us know what we’re getting right and where we need to make improvements.”

Steve Taylor, Chief Officer for Rochdale Care Organisation, added: “I am really proud of our teams. I work alongside these fantastic people every day and I’m pleased they’re getting recognition for the good care they provide to our patients.”
