Date: Wednesday 26 April 2023

Time: 13:00 to 14:00

Location: Room F17, Education Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital

It will be hosted with Linda Adams, Diabetes Specialist Nurse to discuss and raise the awareness of Diabetes. Delegates will be given the opportunity to find out more about the condition and the diabetes services provided by the team based at the Royal Oldham Hospital part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS FoundationTrust.

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high. There are 2 main types of diabetes

  • Type 1 - where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin
  • Type  2 - where the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or the body's cells don't react to insulin

Linda Adams said “One in six people in hospital will have diabetes, it’s therefore important patients receive high quality care and their diabetes is managed appropriately when they are admitted. The Oldham Diabetes Specialist Nursing team are keen to raise awareness among patients, carers and staff members about the importance of managing diabetes while in hospital so that patients receive safe and effective care. The team also provide an outpatient service and many new initiatives have been developed in our clinical areas which has improved the knowledge of staff, enhanced patient care and increased patient satisfaction. We will discuss some of these initiatives during the talk.”
