Patients and service users are at the heart of all our research, so we are absolutely thrilled that this was recognised formally at the Greater Manchester Health and Care Research Awards 2023. Our Bury gastroenterology research team was awarded the prize for 'putting participants first' in recognition of all its work with and for people with inflammatory bowel disease.
The team is led by deputy director of Research and Innovation for Bury, Professor Jimmy Limdi, who also heads the Section of Inflammatory Bowel Disease for NCA's Bury, Oldham and Rochdale Care Organisations. He is pictured with research delivery lead, Denise McSorland, research practitioner, Kay Goulden, Dr Karishma Sethi and NCA's chief medical officer, Dr Rafik Bedair.
The success follows NCA being the highest recruiter to gastroenterology studies in England last year, as well as recently recording the first UK participants in three international trials. Congratulations also go to all our shortlisted colleagues: Grainne O'Connor, Ruth Haas Eckersley, Sharon Barber, Jess Zadik, the Acute Research delivery team and the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre and Stroke Impact teams who organised a Brain Health Day at Manchester Central Library.
Professor Limdi said: "We are delighted to be recognised for our cutting-edge research into inflammatory bowel diseases and putting patients and participants first. There are many more exciting developments to come including a world-first study reporting patient perceptions and barriers to participation in research."
