NCA signs British Medical Association’s campaign to end sexism in medicine

26 September 2023

The Northern Care Alliance has joined the BMA campaign to end sexism in medicine, and with full support and commitment from the senior team has signed the pledge. The NCA is formally listed on the BMA website A joint pledge to end sexism in medicine (bma.org.uk).

NCA Chief Medical Officer, Rafik Bedair, said “Sexism should never be tolerated, whether from individuals or ingrained in policies and structures. We want to enable our medical students and doctors to highlight any concerns they may have. In welcoming new colleagues to the NCA, I give them my commitment to support and celebrate diversity.  Together, we can create a profession in which all doctors and medical students feel valued and included”.

Nicky Clarke, NCA Chief of People, said “In joining the NCA, colleagues have access to resources and policies which aim to protect and support them to be the best they can be.  All doctors and medical students should work in an environment free from discrimination where gender plays no role in their career progression or how they are treated by colleagues and patients. We will do everything we can to ensure this is the case”.
