Maternity colleagues at The Royal Oldham Hospital have gained outstanding status from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health regarding deferred cord clamping in preterm babies.
Deferred cord clamping for one minute or more has many neonatal and child benefits including the improved health of premature babies and increased iron levels. The audit identified that the rates for this procedure in Oldham were greater than the national average.
Natasha Maddock, Consultant Neonatologist said: “This is a huge achievement. Credit goes to our colleagues who have spent time training and supporting the teams so they feel confident to provide deferred cord clamping to even our most vulnerable patients.”
