The Salford Royal renal team travels to sister hospital in Nigeria to continue work on international programme's most successful partnership.
Congratulations to Professor Ibi Erekosima, Dr David Lewis, Dr Dimitrios Poulikakos and renal department colleagues who have supported Salford Royal's successful completion of a development programme for a sister hospital in Nigeria. Under the International Society of Nephrology Sister Renal Centres (ISN-SRC) programme, the team have been working with the University Hospital, Port Harcourt, since 2017 to develop services, provide online training and education and collaborate on research. In that time, it has been recognised as one of ISN-SRC's most successful partnerships and Salford Royal has become an ISN Mentor renal centre. The partnership began following Prof Erekosima's appointment as an ISN international ambassador for education and he is visiting Professor of Medicine and Medical Education to the University of Port Harcourt Medical School. As well as welcoming doctors from Port Harcourt on exchange visits, the Salford team have visited Nigeria to deliver hands-on training.
Prof Erekosima said: “The programme has enabled the Salford renal unit to promote best practices in renal care through global partnership and providing cutting-edge knowledge and skills in clinical nephrology. Thank you to all who have contributed.”
