The Clinical Haematology service is hosted by Oldham Care Organisation. The directorate provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for haematological malignancies at British Committee for Standards in Haematology Level 2b. It also investigates and manages patients with a range of non- malignant haematological disorders directly and offers a consultative service to other clinical colleagues.
The service includes a Cancer Standards Higher Intensity Chemotherapy inpatient facility (22 beds) and a day case facility centralised on the Oldham site. The unit provides both elective and non-elective capacity, including provision of chemotherapy and diagnostics.

The Haematology Day Case Unit (HHDC) is located adjacent to Ward F11. This is provided with 9 chairs, 1 trolley, 1 bed, two procedure rooms and three consultation rooms. The HHDC offers facilities for chemotherapy and supportive treatments for a range of patients with both malignant and non-malignant hematological conditions.
Haematology provides 16 outpatient clinics per week, comprising new and follow up outpatient assessment and treatments for a range of haematological conditions
A dedicated bone marrow and PICC/Hickman line service.
Macmillan cancer support is provided by a dedicated Haematology cancer nurse specialist team
24 hour hotline contact service is available for patients receiving chemotherapy treatment.
When attending the Haematology department you will be registered on the appropriate system and assessed and treated by the service appropriate to your needs.
During the Coronavirus outbreak, the Northern Care Alliance has had to restrict visiting across all of our hospitals. This is to protect our patients, those important to them, our staff and our community from the spread of coronavirus.
Visitors to all areas within the Directorate are currently restricted due to COVID-19. However, an
Immediate family member or carer – will be permitted to accompany a patient or visit if one or more of the following criteria is met:
• The patient you wish to visit is receiving end-of-life care.
• You are the birthing partner accompanying a woman in labour.
• You are a parent or appropriate adult visiting/attending with your child.
• You are supporting someone with a mental health issue such as dementia, a learning disability or autism, where not being present would cause the patient to be distressed.
You will be allowed to visit Coronavirus positive loved ones only if they meet any of these exceptional circumstances. Staff will support you with the appropriate levels of PPE required for this.
Patients are encouraged to bring all their own medicines, in the original containers to any visit to the hospital.

Patients are referred to the Haematology service from primary care using the NHS e-referral system. The service has a 2 consultants dedicated to an advice and guidance service to offer GPs and other health professionals advice and support when required.
The service accepts referrals of all priorities including suspected cancer, urgent and routine.
