Podiatry (Acute) - Royal Oldham, Fairfield Hospital [Bury], Rochdale Infirmary

This service provides acute podiatry care for patients who have active high risk foot conditions associated with Diabetes, Vascular, Rheumatological and Musculoskeletal conditions.

The Podiatry Service provides care for both Inpatients and Outpatients in the acute setting.

  • Expert assessment, diagnosis and management of active foot disease.
  • Outpatient Multi-disciplinary team clinics referred into by community health-care professionals including high risk foot teams, district nurses and General Practitioners.
  • Inpatient management of complex surgical, vascular, diabetic and orthopaedic foot wounds.
  • Expert advice and manufacture of offloading bespoke casted devices, and supply and fit of pressure redistributing devices.
  • Assessment and management of foot wounds.
  • Education and training including study days, workshops and practical placements.
  • Evidence based guidelines for clinical practice and audit of service provision.
  • Undertake regular audits to ensure safe and effective care within the service.
  • Participate in clinical research trials.
  • In patient nail care for pathological nail conditions, and podiatry for foot conditions affecting mobility/rehabilitation.

The service has established strong links with relevant specialist services which include: Diabetes, Vascular, Tissue Viability, Microbiology, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic and Orthotic services as well as community colleagues to achieve safe timely referral, seamless care and holistic approach with a view to ensuring the best outcomes for patients.
