The Macmillan gynaecology specialist nurse is available to support you and your family from the time you first attend hospital and throughout your diagnosis and treatment.
The CNS is a highly qualified and experienced nurse who has specialised in the care and support of patients with a suspected, confirmed or diagnosed gynaecological cancer; they work very closely with the doctors involved in your care.
The CNS can provide information, support and advice for patients, their family and carers.
This service covers areas such as:
- The different types of gynaecological cancers
- Support and someone to listen to your concerns
- Investigations and surgical treatment including possible referral to St Mary’s or Christie Hospitals for initial treatment
- Discussion of the treatment options
- Coping after surgery
- Referral to other services
You can expect to meet the CNS:
- At the outpatient clinic
- Whilst having inpatient investigations/treatment
- They are also available to talk to by telephone
You can contact the CNS yourself or you can ask nursing or medical staff to contact them on your behalf.

The Gynaecology Macmillan Cancer Coordinator
The Gynaecology Macmillan Cancer Coordinator provides practical and emotional support to people living with cancer and their families.
They recognise information needs that people require may change over time and work with the person to ensure they receive the right support at the right time throughout their cancer journey.
For general enquiries you can also contact the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at The Royal Oldham Hospital on 0161 656 1026. The centre is also open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm for drop-in visits.
The Macmillan Support Line is available Monday - Sunday 8am - 10pm on 0808 808 0000.
