What is a Macmillan HPB nurse?
Macmillan HPB Specialist nurses are nurses who are specially trained to care for people with pancreas, liver, gallbladder, duodenal (hepatobiliary) cancers.
Your HPB Specialist Nurse
Your HPB Specialist Nurse is based at Royal Oldham Hospital and also providing a service for Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General Hospital.
What do we do?
We provide information, advice and support to you and your family throughout your care.
We work as part of a large team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. We also communicate regularly with others involved in your care, for example your GP and district nurse.
Some patients go to other hospitals for their treatment. If this is the case your key worker may change for the time you are under their care. In this case a new key worker will be issued and their contact details given at the hospital you attend. Your initial key worker will always continue to assist if at all required.
How can we help you?
We can help in a variety of ways:
- By giving you information to prepare you for any investigations and treatment you may require
- By providing ongoing support, advice and information and being available to discuss your care and treatment with you
- By providing advice on managing any symptoms you may have as a result of your treatment
- By providing information about other organisations and associations that may offer you help and support
- By offering you advice regarding benefits and other practical issues
- By communicating with others involved in your care
- By providing support, for both you and your family
