Audiology - Audiology Service (Bury, Oldham and Rochdale)

The Audiology Service provides hearing and balance care for adults and children in Bury, Oldham and Rochdale.

We provide care in various locations in these boroughs and also offer home visits for patients who are housebound. A large number of our services have been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

We work closely with social care, education services, patients and 3rd Sector parties to provide the best possible care.

What do we provide?

Adult Audiology Service:

• Hearing assessment and management for patients over 16 years if age
• Hearing assessment for patients with special needs
• Hearing aids incorporating the latest digital technology
• Hearing aid repairs
• Hearing rehabilitation
• Tinnitus assessment* and rehabilitation (*Unilateral Tinnitus assessment needs to be referred to ENT at Bury and Oldham)
• Dizziness rehabilitation (available in Bury and Rochdale)
• Wax removal affecting the care pathway for audiology patients

Enhanced Adult Audiology Service:

• Referral for MRI scans (available in Rochdale service)
• Dizziness Assessment (available in Bury and Rochdale services)
• Suction clearance of ear wax:
  ○    Rochdale/Bury - patients who are not suitable for ear irrigation
  ○    Oldham - only available for patients who require hearing aids via an AQP pathway

Children’s Audiology Service:

• Hearing assessment from birth to 16 years of age
• Hearing assessment for patients with special needs
• Paediatric hearing aid fitting
• Multi-disciplinary hearing habilitation
• Specialist led Aetiology clinics
• Hearing aid repairs

How to access the service

Adult patients can be referred by their GP via the E- Referral Service. Parents/carers can refer their child by contacting the Audiology Service via telephone, letter or email.

GPs referring via E-Referral should upload referrals onto the most appropriate NCA Community Audiology E-Referral list.
