Your wheelchair is on loan to you for as long as you require it. If you no longer need your chair, please contact Posture & Mobility Centre (PMC) on 0161 206 0485 or Rosscare on 0345 120 4992 and collection can be arranged.
Your responsibilities
Conditions of loan - you must read the conditions of loan form that was provided when you got your chair carefully so that you understand your responsibilities.
Transportation - it is vital that when travelling in a vehicle that your wheelchair is secured in place with the correct vehicle tie downs and a standard car seatbelt applied as per manufacturer guidelines. If you have any queries about how your chair can be transported, please review your wheelchair handbook or contact PMC on 0161 206 0485.
Repairs - please check your wheelchair regularly for signs of wear and damage and report any concerns to Rosscare on 0345 120 4992.
Cleaning - please ensure you keep your chair in a clean condition.
Review - we do not arrange routine follow-up appointments. It is your responsibility to let us know if you are having problems with the equipment or any changes with your physical and medical conditions that requires a reassessment.
Posture supports - these are fitted to a wheelchair for postural purposes and are not to be used as a restraint or instead of a vehicle seat belt. lt is important that you are sat/positioned as far back as possible into your seat and your pelvic belt should be adjusted to be secure fitting.
Alterations and modifications - your wheelchair must not be altered or have any attachments fitted to it without agreement from PMC.
Powered chair not working - You will be expected to be use the basic manual chair provided by Rosscare until the repair is completed. If you cannot use this manual option, then you will need to consider what your contingency will be if your powered wheelchair is out of action.
Out and about – PMC provided powered wheelchairs are not for use on the road. The maximum speed limit on a footpath is 4 mph/6.4 kph. When you are in your powered chair on a footpath, you are no longer classed as a pedestrian and pedestrians always have the right of way. It is your responsibility to ensure you do not run into anyone or cause any damage to your wheelchair.
Useful Information
Third party insurance - it is recommended that anyone who is allocated with a powered wheelchair, takes out liability insurance as PMC does not cover any damage to a third party.
Travel abroad - we would recommend that you make provision in your travel insurance or through an alternative policy for any third-party liability, loss or damage to the equipment as PMC does not cover any damage for travel out of the UK.
Breakdown – PMC does not provide breakdown cover. If your powered chair fails whilst you are outdoors put it into manual mode and push it to the nearest wheelchair taxi or pick-up point for a vehicle. Ross Care will complete repairs at your home or will arrange collection if extensive work is required. You can choose to have a private insurance who may provide recovery in the event of breakdown; however, we are unable to recommend any private insurance companies.
Driving adverse weather - it is advised to carry a plastic bag to cover the joystick control if caught in rain although it is not appropriate to use an electric wheelchair in rain. We would advise to find a cover until the rain passes and never go out in adverse or extreme weather conditions.
Going out at night - we recommend that you wear high-visibility clothing or lights in the evening when outdoors. If you wear dark-coloured clothes, always wear a reflective jacket or band.
We recommend carrying a torch and a mobile phone if possible.
Alcohol and drugs - it is strongly recommended that patients do not drive a powered wheelchair whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
