Who are we?
The Pennine Lung Asthma Service consists of Paediatric and Adult Asthma Nurse Specialists and are based at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Outpatients C. We provide asthma education and support for adults, and children and young people aged 5 years and over within the Oldham area. We work closely with you, GPs, practice nurses and other health professionals, local schools, and the local council to promote awareness and understanding of the condition to ensure service users with asthma are able to lead full and active lives.
How can we help you?
The asthma nurse specialist may invite you to a clinic appointment either in a hospital or community setting or may visit you at your home. The nurse will complete a thorough assessment, and if needed, you, or your child’s treatment may be changed to manage the asthma more effectively. We will also provide information and support for you to feel more confident to manage your asthma safely to reduce the risk of requiring future hospital attendances.
Once you feel confident about managing asthma and have an asthma action plan to follow, you will be discharged back to the GP or practice nurse for the annual asthma review.
Some of the information you give to the nurse may be used to decide how helpful the service has been. The information will be anonymous and only used for this purpose. If you have any questions, please ask the nurse.
