Meet the team - Oldham A&E therapy team

31 August 2023

The Royal Oldham Accident and Emergency (A&E) Therapy Team provide a seven-day service with the main aim of admission avoidance through therapy assessment and onward referrals.

The small team of five colleagues include Occupational Therapists, Physios and a Therapy assistant and are often referred to as the admission avoidance team. The team review patients who are already in A&E along with those who arrive throughout the day. They proactively screen over 65’s who meet the therapy/frailty criteria or have had a fall in the previous 24 hours.

Bekki O’Brien, A& E Therapy Lead said: “I feel passionate about what we do in A&E knowing the positive impact we have in changing the patient journey and preventing unnecessary admission into hospital is so rewarding. I have a proactive team working towards the same goal and if for any reason admission is necessary, we work with the inpatient team to ensure a thorough handover ensuring the patient has the necessary therapy input needed to get them home when they’re well.”

The service is available every day between 07:00 and 19:30pm.
