Paediatrics - Children and Young People Stop Smoking Support

Stop Smoking Support with Royal Oldham Hospital

Stopping smoking is the single best thing you can do to protect your health and those around you. As a child in your household recently sought treatment or support for symptoms of asthma or related conditions, you and other members of your household including children and young people can gain access to free, personalised stop smoking support.

The support offered is non-judgemental and can be as little or as much as you like, to help you on your smokefree journey and protect yourself and others from the avoidable harms caused by smoking or second-hand smoke inside the home.

What are the risks of tobacco smoke?

Cigarettes contain thousands of toxic chemicals which damage every part of the body and can cause breathing problems and asthma attacks.

Second-hand smoke, which comes from the tip of a lit cigarettes and is breathed out by a smoker, can be especially dangerous when inhaled by children as they have less well-developed airways, lungs, and immune systems. Even if you can’t see the smoke, it lingers in the air for hours and the toxic chemicals stick to clothing, furniture and skin.

What support is available?

If you smoke tobacco and are an Oldham resident or registered with an Oldham GP, you can get free, personalised stop smoking support and treatment from either:
