The area outside Fairfield General Hospital’s (FGH) Emergency Department (ED) was a little livelier a few weeks ago as our ED colleagues were put through their paces in chemical hazard training. The exercise saw a slew of ‘patients’ – around 20 of our wonderful hospital volunteers – simulating the effects of being exposed to a nerve agent. The ED team dealt with an array of ages, abilities and ethnicities as part of practising a range of professional skills. FGH volunteer lead and an acting casualty, Caroline Short said: “The ED team were very caring – I felt we were going to be looked after and that we were in very safe hands.”
