When life changes in a split second due to major trauma, recovery can feel overwhelming. But for Stuart Wildman, trauma nurse coordinator at the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital (GMMTH), one thing makes all the difference: hope.
Stuart says: “Hope is everything. It motivates you, gets you out of bed, and gives you a purpose to recover.”
This Major Trauma Awareness Week 2025, Stuart is reflecting on how important it is to give patients hope – not only through medical treatment, but also by supporting their emotional, practical, and financial needs.
At GMMTH, our dedicated major trauma team brings their expertise together to care for patients with life-changing injuries. Alongside this, our partners at Day One Trauma Support provide vital help to patients and families at every stage of their journey.
“Day One is a key part of the recovery jigsaw,” Stuart explains. “They give people a safety net beyond the hospital, while we focus on their clinical care. Together, we give people hope.”
You can see Stuart share his experience as part of the ‘We are Day One’ campaign and video for Major Trauma Awareness Week 2025.
