Life-saving procedure extended to run round the clock

An innovative procedure that is saving the lives of stroke patients by physically removing blood clots is now available around the clock at Salford Royal.
The mechanical thrombectomy service for treating patients with acute ischaemic stroke is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; meaning even more patients can benefit from the highly specialised procedure.

Providing a safe and calm environment for patients

The Salford Mental Health Urgent Care Area – a dedicated space at A&E for patients to wait for a mental health assessment in Salford – has been praised eight months on.
Launched last year by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), the area offers a calm and comfortable space for people who may find A&E a difficult environment when experiencing a mental health crisis and provides additional support from staff trained specifically in mental health.

The skills and compassion of a much-loved colleague have been recognised with a special lifetime achievement award.
Dr Niamh Collins, who was a specialty doctor working in emergency care at Salford Royal, passed away earlier this year.
