Ward 5 is a 27 bedded Acute Stroke Unit which cares for mixed sex patients. The ward has an 11 bedded hyper-acute unit for those within the first 72 hours of having a stroke and a 16 bedded acute unit for patients out of their hyper-acute phase.
We offer the treatment and management of acute strokes and transient ischaemic attacks. We can refer patients to our stroke rehabilitation wards (ward 24 & ward 25) where needed as well as the early supportive discharge teams in the community for ongoing therapy after discharge.

Patients will be reviewed on arrival to A&E by the on call stroke team including a consultant physician, registrar and a stroke trained nurse. Throughout their admission to the ward patients will be seen by various members of the multi-disciplinary team as listed above in order to plan for individualised ognoing care and / or discharge.
Please bring in any medication you may be taking as well as any toiletries you may need and comfy clothes/pyjamas where possible.
If you suspect you or someone else is having a stroke please ring 999 as soon as possible.
This is an acute service and so available to accept referrals from emergency departments from 7am to 11 pm. Outside of these hours all acute patients to be referred directly to the on call stroke team at Salford Royal Hospital.
