Step A:

1. Go to the Northern Care Alliance Library Search: https://www.northerncarealliance.nhs.uk/research-education/library/find-bookarticle
2. Type in the title or author of the book and press the Search button or hit 'Enter'. If you would like to browse books on a particular subject, type in some keywords instead.
3. Use the limiters on the left-hand side to select Books or eBooks
4. If an eBook is available, you will see 'Online access available' or 'Access item'; click on the icon to access the eBook. You will need your Athens login.
5. If a physical book is available on our library shelves, the following will be shown:

The 'Shelf Mark’ tells you exactly where the book is on the shelf.
The ‘Status’ tells you if the book is in the Library and available to loan.

• To reserve a print book select 'Request this item'. Be sure to let us know which library you want to collect it from.

2. Type in the exact title of the journal and press the magnifying glass or hit 'Enter'.
3. To view click either 'Online access available', 'View journal in Browzine' or, 'Full text access' to check available publication dates
4. Login with your Athens details to view full text journal articles

Most of our journals are online, but any print journals we have are also included behind the ‘Full Text Access’ button.

If you prefer to browse journals in your subject, go to https://browzine.com/libraries/2908/subjects. You will need to log in with Athens when prompted.

If you are having any issues with accessing a journal article, or your Athens details, please get in touch at library@nca.nhs.uk

2. Untick ‘Search the NCA Library Collection’ and ‘Full Text’ boxes.
3. Enter the complete article title into the search box. Select ‘Search’ 
4. When the article is found, select ‘Get PDF’ or ‘Access item’ which takes you to the article. 
5. To see the article in context, click ‘View Complete Issue’. Useful if there was an edition focused on a specific topic.
6. Note: You may be asked to log in with your Athens account.
7. If the whole article is not available you can either:

• Select ‘Search for this Title in Google Scholar’ 
• Ask the Library to get the article for you by clicking 'Request this item from the library team' and completing the request form.

3. Log in with Athens at the top of the results page.
4. The first results listed are journals and books.
5. Use the limiters on the left-hand side to narrow your results.
6. Select ‘Get PDF’ or ‘Access item’ to view an article. 
7. To see the article in context, click ‘View Complete Issue’. Useful if there was an edition focused on a specific topic.
8. If the whole article is not available you can either:

• Select ‘Search for this Title in Google Scholar’ 
• Ask the Library to get the article for you by clicking 'Request this item from the library team' and completing the request form

Books:

If we don’t have the book you need we'll do our best to locate it for you.

Please complete our book request form at the bottom of this page and provide as much information as possible. This will enable us to answer your request in the most appropriate way. This may range from purchasing a copy to add to the library collection, loaning a book from another library or even obtaining a copy of a particular chapter. Simply complete the form and we'll contact you with an update on your request.
