Step A:

1. Go to the Northern Care Alliance Library Search: northerncarealliance.nhs.uk/research-education/library/find-bookarticle
2. Type in the title or author of the book and press the Search button or hit 'Enter'. If you would like to browse books on a particular subject, type in some keywords instead.
3. Use the Source type drop down menu under the search box to select Books or eBooks, use Full Text to focus on books we can access
4. If an eBook is available, you will see 'Access options', 'Online access' or 'Access item'; click on the icon to access the eBook. You will need your OpenAthens login.
5. If a physical book is in our collection, you will see this kind of information:

The 'Shelf Mark’ tells you exactly where the book is on the shelf.
The ‘Status’ tells you if the book is in the Library and available to borrow.

• To reserve a print book select 'Request this item'. Be sure to let us know which library you want to collect it from, or if you need us to send it to you at Rochale Infirmary or in the Community.

2. Type in the exact title of the journal and press the magnifying glass or hit 'Enter'.

If the journal is found it shows in a box at the top of the results page. You may also be able to search within the publication from here. 

1. Click on the title to see publication details and then 'Full text access' which will also show which issues are available.
2. Login with your OpenAthens details to view full text journal articles

Most of our journals are online, but any print journals we have are also included behind the ‘Full text access’ link.

If you prefer to browse journals in your subject, go to browzine.com/libraries/2908/subjects. You will need to log in with OpenAthens when prompted.

3. Enter the complete article title into the search box. Select ‘Search’ 
4. Note: You will be asked to log in with your OpenAthens account
5. Click 'Access options’ to see the article details
6. Select ‘Get PDF’ or ‘Online full text’ or similar to take you to the full text of the article. 
7. To see the article in context, click ‘View Complete Issue’. Useful if there was an edition focused on a specific topic.
8. If the full text is not available click 'Request this item' and complete the form. Library staff request it from other health libraries in England.

If the article is not found, complete the Request an Article form at the bottom of this page and we'll do our best to locate it for you.

3. Log in with Athens at the top of the results page.
4. The first results listed are journals and books.
5. Use the Source type under the search box to narrow your results.
6. Click ‘Access options’ to see the article details
7. Select ‘Get PDF’ or ‘Online full text’ or similar to take you to the full text of the article.
8. Select or ‘Access item’ to view an article. 
9. To see the article in context, click ‘View Complete Issue’. Useful if there was an edition focused on a specific topic.
10. If the full text is not available click 'Request this item' and complete the form. Library staff request it from other health libraries in England.

Books:

If we don’t have the book you need we'll do our best to locate it for you.

Please complete our book request form at the bottom of this page and provide as much information as possible. This will enable us to answer your request in the most appropriate way. This may be purchasing a copy to add to the library collection, loaning a book from another library or even obtaining a copy of a particular chapter. Simply complete the form and we'll contact you with an update on your request.

Journals:
